It’s been a busy summer so far. But I’ve been playing the Princess Bride game every night before bed. I only do a little at a time, a few levels within each game in order. So I’m still in Buttercup’s farm, and the tasks are starting to get hard. I like that!
The parts where you have to light a fire and keep a fire going, like in level 2, are a challenge. You’ll see what I mean when you play the game, or maybe you have already. It reminds me of lighting a fire at Girl Scout camp, even though it was an outdoors fire. We had to get the wood ready and keep it going hot enough to cook on it for a while.
Though we didn’t have to do other chores like milk cows while we did! That comes in level 3…anybody who’s been around cows, which I was in Girl Scout camp too, will find it funny!
I love this game.

Westley began his adventure as a simple farm boy.
We know The Princess Bride is loosely based on the medieval to Renaissance periods, so what can we learn about Westley’s life on the farm?

History for Kids has some simple & interesting articles about farming in “olden days”, including when Westley would have been answering to Buttercup’s every whim.

My first day playing The Princess Bride. The videos are like cartoon versions of scenes from the movie and the voices sound so much like the actors, it makes me want to watch the movie again too! I saw on the web page that some of the actors made the voices for the video game. Now I’m excited for all the scenes that will come later on.
The first thing I noticed about the game was the theme music, which is an awesome song.
There are different levels in the game, like Buttercup’s farm and the Fire swamp. I really want to start playing games from all of the levels but I decided it’s better to play them in order, but it’s tempting to jump around. So far Buttercup’s farm is pretty easy, but I have a feeling it’ll get hard fast. I like it, but it’s making me see how demanding Buttercup really was!
I think I could spend a lot of time playing this game, but I have to stop for today, because like Westley I have chores. In the first game on the farm he has to pull up carrots, and it reminds me that my parents said I could have a little veggie garden this year, and I have to go weed it. At least I won’t have Buttercup bossing me around.
